Drunk drivers off roads for six months

SHILLONG: Two inebriated drivers in the city have been booked under the Motor Vehicles Act and their licences suspended for six months, police said on Friday.
SP (City) Vivek Syiem said in the first case, Rojestar Kharbikhiew was detained and booked under Section 177/179/185 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, on August 30. A non-FIR case was registered against him at Laitumkhrah Traffic Branch. He was later forwarded to the court of L Kharshiing, Judicial Magistrate First Class, Shillong Court. The local court fined him Rs 2,600 and suspended his licence till March 1, 2017.
In another case on August 31, Ribhami F. Gashnga was detained and booked under Section 185/187 of the MV Act. The same court convicted him and slapped a fine of Rs 2,000. Gashnga has been debarred from driving till March 3, 2017.
