SHILLONG: The PWD (Roads) Department is looking into the causes that led to the collapse of the PMGSY bridge that was under construction in Mawhati constituency, said Chief Minister Mukul Sangma.
Speaking to media persons on Thursday, Sangma said the Ri Bhoi deputy commissioner has sought a report on the matter. PWD (Roads) Minister M.M. Danggo and local MLA Julius K. Dorphang inspected the accident site on Thursday.
The bridge, which was being built under the PMGSY at Pamlatar bordering Umtyrkhang village, collapsed on August 25 when workers were cementing the structure. Seven persons were injured.
The workers had informed a junior PWD engineer about  the weak post earlier on the day and requested him to stop the work. But he had asked them to continue.
The Rs 625.46-lakh project to construct the bridge connecting Umsning-Jagiroad to Pamlatar at a distance of 8km was entrusted to M/s Dhar Construction Company.
