SHILLONG: The State government has sent a proposal to Governor V. Shanmuganathan seeking his approval to hold the by-election to six vacant seats in the KHADC and another in the JHADC – by December this year.
Sources on Friday said the State government is awaiting the approval from the Governor for holding the by-election for the seven vacant seats following the resignation of  H.D.R Lyngdoh (Nongspung- Sohiong), Sanbor Shullai (Laban-Mawprem), Ardent M. Basaiawmoit (Nongkrem), K.P. Pangniang (Rambrai-Jyrngam), Metbah Lyngdoh (Mairang-Nongkhlaw), Brolding Nongsiej (Mawthadraishan) and Stephanson Mukhim (Amlarem) as members of the district council.
Sources added that though the High Court of Meghalaya has rejected the December 13 date fixed by the State government, the same schedule was sent to the Governor for his approval.
As per the proposed schedule, the State government has proposed November 28 as the last date for filing nominations for the district council by-polls. The last date for withdrawal of nomination papers was proposed on December 1.
The date of finalization and publication of valid nomination and allocation of symbol was fixed for December 3.        Polling has been fixed for December 13 while counting of votes is being proposed on December 16.
