BSF seizes timber, coal, bamboo at Intl border

SHILLONG: It appears that the smugglers want to make the most out of the flooded Simsang and Chillai rivers. These rivers have been main routes for smuggling logs/coal and bamboo from India to Bangladesh and despite efforts from the BSF troops, the smuggling bid continues unabated through these rivers in Meghalaya.
In the last two days the BSF has seized 142.84 Cft of logs, 500 bamboos and 10 tons of coal while they were being smuggled through Simsang river in Baghmara, South Garo Hills to Bangladesh.
Similarly, the BSF, in a joint operation with the Forest officials seized more than 3000 pieces of bamboo from Chillai river in Ryngku, East Khasi Hills, few days back.
In another incident, the BSF troops seized 15 cattle worth over Rs. 2.5 lakh in Ganganagar, West Khasi Hills and Nongjuri, East Khasi Hills while they were being smuggled to Bangladesh.
