Explosives seized in Jaintia Hills

JOWAI: A team of East Jaintia Hills Police and Lumshnong Anti Dacoity Camp seized seven boxes of gelatin sticks, 83 boxes of safety fuses wires and 50 pieces of electronic detonators hidden inside the godown of a hardware shop owned by one Asutosh Das.
Police arrested Sanjay Das, manager of the hardware shop located at Umsahi market in Lumshnong village, East Jaintia Hills. The owner of the shop is said to be on the run.
Police sources informed that the seizure and the arrest were based on a tip off following a raid conducted on Thursday evening.
“The owner of the hardware store who has been illegally dealing in explosives is absconding and we are trying our best to trace him”, said district police chief S. Thamar.
