World Literacy Day celebrated in Ri Bhoi

Nongpoh: A one-day programme on World Literacy Day organised by the District Mission Coordinator of SSA-SEMAM at Umling C & RD Block was held on Thursday where local MDC Rona Khymdeit attended the function as the Chief Guest.
Speaking at the function, Khymdeit, highlighted the increasing literacy rate in the district while urging the Education Department officials and parents to work hard toward achieving a hundred percent literacy rate in the district.
She also exhorted the teachers and students to work harder towards making Ri Bhoi District an example for other districts in the state and country as a whole.
Other dignitaries present on the function included Deputy Commssioner Ri Bhoi C.P.  Gotmare, P.K Sangma EAC Nongpoh, D.D. Syngai, EAC & DMC, R. Kharbihkhiew BDO Umling, R. Rizal BMC Umling and P. P. Yadav, BMC Jirang. Earlier in the morning, a rally on World Literacy Day was flagged off by Kharbihkhiew where school students of Ri Bhoi District took part in displaying slogans and placards.
The Deputy Commissioner of Ri Bhoi District while delivering his speech on the function expressed his appreciation to the Education Department in uplifting the status of individuals in Ri Bhoi District while urging the teachers’ community to be more practical in their teaching methodology and make learning more interesting and enjoyable to the students.
During the programme, Sangma  also gave a presentation on Beti Bachao Beti Padhao and encouraged both teachers and parents to give equal opportunity to girl child and stressed the gathering to take more efforts in educating the girl child.
