SMB’s proposed property tax opposed
SHILLONG: The executive committee of the Synjuk ki Nongsynshar Shnong ka Bri U Hynniewtrep (SNSBH) has decided to come up with proposals on certain contentious issues, including the Village Administration Bill.
In a meeting held on Friday, the conglomeration of traditional heads decided to write to KHADC Chief Executive Member PN Syiem on the pending Village Administration Bill.
R.L Blah, general secretary of the SNSBH, said the members wished to meet Syiem and other executive members of the KHADC to dilate on Chief Minister Mukul Sangma’s proposal to recall the Bill.
“The CM had suggested to the KHADC to recall the Bill, so we wished to seek the opinion of the KHADC and then we will take it to the general meeting of the SNSBH,” Blah said.
The SNSBH also criticised and opposed the move of the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) to legalise property tax for land holdings as heavy taxes “will be a burden on the people”. “We urge the representatives to support our stand and demand the State government to revoke the legalisation of property tax.”
