CPC says this will lessen traffic snarls
TURA: The Central Puja Committee (CPC) of Tura, an apex coordinating body of all puja committees in Garo Hills, has decided to take steps to ease traffic congestion that is usually a damper for revellers. The body will also reduce the time of immersion process on Dashami on October 11.
In a meeting held on Sunday, the CPC decided to have a ‘people-friendly immersion’ procession in which each puja pandal will be allowed only one truck, thereby reducing the number of vehicles on roads.
The committee has also decided to do away with the traditional procession that begins from Gurjoo studio point and returns to the same spot after passing through the Rikman hotel, police station, MTC station route before immersion.
“This will reduce the time of immersion by almost an hour and emergency services like 108 and others will be guided by CPC to pass through during the procession,” said the CPC.
This year, 24 puja pandals are coming up in Tura town.
A delegation of CPC members also called on North Tura MLA Noverfield R Marak over preparations at the immersion ghat at Lower Babupara and submitted a detailed plan.
The committee has asked all revellers to maintain cleanliness during the puja and the immersion procession.
A ‘dhak’-beating competition and a cultural programme will take place on September 13 at the Tura Police Parade Ground where awards for the best pandal, reception and hospitality, illumination, immersion procession and other events will be distributed.
