SHILLONG: The delay on the part of Bangladesh authorities to carry out joint inspection has created hurdles for the early inauguration of four new border haats in Meghalaya.
Chief Minister Mukul Sangma informed the Assembly on Wednesday that four border haats, which were sanctioned, include Bholaganj (East Khasi Hills), Nalikata (South West Khasi Hills), Sibbari (South Garo Hills) and Ryngku (East Khasi Hills).
In reply to a question by UDP’s Titosstarwell Chyne, the Chief Minister said the joint inspection of these areas could not be started as Bangladesh authorities have been postponing the same.
Umshyrpi road expansion
PWD (Roads) Minister, Martin Danggo, said that there is a proposal to expand the road from Umshyrpi bridge to 7th mile. In reply to a question by Paul Lyngdoh (UDP), Danggo told the Assembly that the feasibility study report has been submitted to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. However, the ministry is yet to approve the proposal, he added.
