TURA: The wife of GNLA chief Sohan D Shira was detained for questioning after she met the wanted rebel near Songsak on Wednesday. The rebel, however, escaped.
Intelligence inputs said Sohan fixed a meeting with his wife and three children in the forested area of Ronggapgre between Williamnagar and Songsak in East Garo Hills. The rebel’s hideout is in the Durama Hills across River Simsang.
Police had launched an operation based on the intelligence inputs but missed him by a whisker. East Garo Hills police said the rebel got the hint of the police team coming five minutes after the meeting and he managed to escape. Sohan’s wife was detained from the area on Wednesday.
“We questioned her about the visit and she confessed that Sohan was present at the venue but left five minutes into the meeting after getting information about our teams approaching,” said police chief Davis Nestell R Marak.
Sohan had reportedly wanted to meet the family since a day earlier was his younger son’s birthday. The wife was released after questioning.
