Coal bodies jubilant over SC verdict

SHILLONG/ NONGSTOIN: The State Co-ordination Committee of Coal Owners, Miners & Dealers Forum on Wednesday thanked the Supreme Court for allowing the transportation of already extracted coal with effect from October 1 till May 31 next.
The Forum said that it had on September 20 urged the Supreme Court to allow filing of an affidavit in connection with the case, which was allowed.
The Forum was represented by Supreme Court Lawyers Nalin S Kohli and P. Bajaj assisted by P. Yobin, a city-based lawyer.
The Forum said that it will make a plea for lifting the ban on coal mining during the hearing of NGT on October 5.
Earlier, A.L.Syiem, general secretary of Hima Nongstoin Land Owner, Coal Trader & Producer Association told reporters that the order the Supreme Court assumes significance since NGT had ordered auctioning of already extracted coal.
The Supreme Court also issued notices to the respondents like Labour Association Siejlieh, the three autonomous district councils, KHADC, JHADC, GHADC, and the State Coordination Committee of Coal Owners, Miners and Dealers Forum.
