Dog killed by security guards in city

SHILLONG: Security guards at Ferndale Apartment Society here assaulted two dogs leading to the death of one on the spot while another escaped with injuries.
As per the FIR lodged by the Meghalaya Stray Dog Welfare Association at the Sadar police station, the dogs were brutally assaulted by Muhu Hajong and Suken Toppo on September 18 morning after the animals strayed into the compound.
Both the dogs were beaten by a wooden club and one of them managed to flee with injuries.
The FIR said the dogs had collars, which meant they belonged to some owners.
According to the FIR, the carcass of the dog was later thrown into a dustbin somewhere in Police Bazar.
A case was registered by Sadar police under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
Police also examined the CCTV footage of the apartment and the accused persons are yet to be arrested.
