TURA: The GHADC Chief Executive Member said on Friday that no decision to fill the two new posts was taken because the Council is going through “severe financial crisis” and salaries of its employees were delayed for several months.
CEM Denang T Sangma said on Friday, “No decision on the expansion of the Executive Committee has been taken and no names have been decided for the two posts. Though we are delighted that the Governor approved expansion of the EC, we are now focusing on getting the District Council out of the financial crisis and ensuring our employees are paid their dues.”
The Governor and the State Government had approved the resolution passed by the NPP-led EC to have 11 executive posts in line with the other District Councils, which have been enjoying the increased strength for the last many years.
‘Headman’ allegedly grabbed land
SHILLONG: Elders of Umsawnongkharai have alleged that one Angelus Sun’s claim to be the new headman of the village is misleading and that he is misusing powers held by the headman.
They stated that an election for the post of headman has not been held for the past 4 years. The matter is however, pending with the KHADC.
According to locals, Sun has also been harassing one William Syngkli and even tried to take away his land.
SBI holds town hall meeting at Umsning
Nongpoh: The first of its kind ‘Town Hall Meeting’ of Umsning was held on Thursday at the Umsning Town Durbar Hall in Ri Bhoi District. The meeting was held to address various issues and grievances faced by the customers of State Bank of India as well as to create mass awareness to the public on various benefits and schemes being implemented by the bank. The programme was organized by the State Bank of India, Umsning Branch.
Celestine Lyngdoh, local legislator of Umsning constituency graced the programme as the chief guest while Donkupar Sumer, Local MDC, as the guest of honour in presence of other top officials of the State Bank of India, Dulal Kanti Choudhury AGM Region-VI, Shillong and Srivas Sen, Director FLC, SBI LHO Guwahati.
The AGM also felicitated Bank Bandhu, Sakharias Nongsiej during the programme.
SK Oil price revised
SHILLONG: The Deputy Commissioner (Supply), West Jaintia District has informed that S.K Oil price has been revised and fixed with immediate effect.
Wholesale price from Jowai and Thadlaskein depot has been fixed at Rs 16.70 per litre while the retail price in SK Oil Depot will be Rs 18.65 per litre.
Wholesale price from Shangpung outlet will be Rs 18.85 per litre while the retail price in retail centres from SK Oil outlet is Rs 21 per litre.
Training cum mock drill
SHILLONG: The District Disaster Management Authority, Ri Bhoi, conducted training for incident response team on September 21-22 at the office of DM&HO followed by a mock drill on earthquake on September 23 at Nongpoh civil hospital. The mock drill was aimed to put into practice the Incident Response System and to assess the preparedness of the Accident Response Team and other stakeholders in case of any disaster.
One held for extortion
SHILLONG: The Commandant of the District Home Guard, West Jaintia Hills has clarified that no orders was issued to one Samuel Susngi of Nangbah village to collect money from residents of Mupliang in West Jaintia Hills. An order was however made for the accused to join his duty as he was working as a muster roll in the Forest Department. The office further stated that it has never authorized Susngi to extort money from villagers on the pretext of repairing gas stoves in the village.
He claimed that the ‘Commandant of the District Home Guard’ has authorized him to collect Rs 500 from every villager and threatened that failure to make the payment will lead to their arrest. The villagers apprehended the accused and handed him over to police.
