TURA: The man who was accused of raping his teenage step-daughter last Friday was arrested on Monday, police said.
North Garo Hills police said Abrey Sangma raped the 16-year-old girl in a forest in Rongmil close to Dokhongsi. Sangma was taking her step-daughter to Dokhongsi en route Rongmil on the morning of September 23    on the pretext of some work. Instead of taking the usual road, the man took the way through the jungle.
Sangma was inebriated when he sexually harassed the girl. He threatened the girl with dire consequences if she told her mother about the incident.
However, the girl mustered her courage and spoke out. The incident was reported to police on Sunday. Police took the man in custody on Monday.
The teenager, who is a high school student, has undergone medical examination.
Meanwhile, another report about rape and murder of a toddler in North Garo Hills was found to be false. The picture of a child’s body was reportedly being circulated in social media with rumours about the incident having occurred in Garo Hills. “The report is not true. We have checked everywhere and no such incident has taken place,” said district police chief Raghavendra Kumar MG. It is alleged that the incident took place Nagaland.
