SHILLONG: Yogesh Joshi, the acting principal of Kendriya Vidyalaya in Tura and main accused in the rape case, has been suspended by West Garo Hills DC Pravin Bakshi, who is also the chairman of the school. The other accused, teacher Deepjyoti Das, has been terminated from service.
The DC, who held an emergency meeting of the Vidyalaya Management Committee on Monday, said the District Child Protection Unit led by the District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) has recorded the statements of students abiding by the child rights protection guidelines. The team has also counselled the two high school girls, who were allegedly   sexually harassed by Joshi and Das, and recommended that the victims be temporarily shifted to a shelter home “as the duo is under stress at the place where they are staying”.
It was also suggested in the meeting that all schools should install CCTV cameras on campuses and inside classrooms.
Besides, a woman police officer has started inquiry as per the guidelines of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights and the POSCO Act.
Meanwhile, in a letter of condemnation submitted to the DC, all teachers of Kendriya Vidyalaya have expressed remorse for the incident and vowed to take corrective steps for the future.
