SHILLONG: The Bharat Sevashram Sangha (BSS) will formally welcome Goddess Durga in a unique combination of song and recitation (or Giti Alekhya) on Wednesday evening. Agomoni (or Songs of Advent) are genres of Bengali folk songs offered in celebration of the return of Goddess Durga, also Parvati, to the home of her parents on the eve of the autumn festival of Durga Puja.
This will be followed by a multicultural foot procession on the morning of October 7 covering major locations in the city and returning with the idol of Goddess Durga traditionally on devotees’ shoulders from the Keating Road workshop. Clothes will be distributed to beneficiaries identified from the economically weaker section of the society on the evening of October 7.
