JOWAI: The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has elected the office of West Jaintia Hills DC for installation of 1,000 LED solar street lights and a 50-KW power plant.
DC Arun Kembhavi said the Ministry has sanctioned Rs 6.04 crore for solar lights. “Our first step is to erect street lights at tourist sites and the rest in villages,” he added.
Kembhavi said the Centre has provided a subsidy of Rs 4.78 crore and the remaining Rs 1.25 crore will have to be borne by beneficiaries.
However, the scheme will not be implemented in Amlarem sub-division as it has its own scheme, he added.
