Gas agency to facilitate LPG booking
SHILLONG: While claiming that vested interests are spreading rumours on matters related to booking of LPG cylinders, the Longkmie Gas Agency (LGA) on Thursday informed that it has been co-operating with the consumers to ensure that they get their cylinders in time.
Reacting to the news report in this regard, a functionary of LGA said that the consumers will be assisted by those who man the agency.
For those who cannot carry out SMS booking, assistance is provided and the number which can be dialed is 9089024365, said the functionary, while adding that no one at the agency had given any  Guwahati landline number to anyone  for booking the cylinders.
Grand Finale of the Meghalaya Icon VI
SHILLONG: The Grand Finale of Meghalaya Icon VI will be held on the October 8 at Malki Ground, Shillong from 12:00 noon onwards.
The winner of the Meghalaya Icon VI will become the brand ambassador and spokesperson of all HIV and AIDS related events under Meghalaya AIDS Control Society for a period of one year or till the next icon is crowned.
Meghalaya Icon VI was introduced to create awareness on HIV and AIDS and to motivate talented youths of the State to not only come out and showcase their potential but also to enhance, increase and share their understanding towards the subject.
Man shot at
JOWAI: A man and his wife both residents of Barato village were reportedly shot at by unknown miscreants while they were sleeping inside a hut near their paddy field at Lapangap village in West Jaintia HIlls bordering West Karbi-Anglong District, Assam.
Police sources also informed that the incident took place on Tuesday night.
According to the WJH SP, R Muthu, the man identified as Thin Situng was injured in his left palm and was admitted to Nartiang PHC for medical treatment.
Police have registered a case under appropriate section of law and investigation is on.
More support for Kembhavi
SHILLONG: A conglomeration of three NGOs in Jaintia Hills has expressed stiff opposition to the demand of the Coordination Committee on International Border (CCIB) to remove West Jaintia Hills DC Arun Kumar Kembhavi.
The NGOs also urged the Centre to expedite the construction of border fencing along the Indo-Bangla border.
The three NGOs —Meghalaya People’s United Front (MPUF), the Khasi Jaintia National Union (KJNU) and the All Hynniewtrep People’s United Front (AHPUF)—argued that the DC should be allowed to complete his full term.
Maintaining that they are not against the CCIB and the plight faced by the border people, Laloo stated that the DC has no connection in matters pertaining to border fencing but is only following orders from higher authorities.
Rape
SHILLONG: One woman was allegedly raped at Marsang Adima under Dadenggre police station in West Garo Hills. Police said  that on October  1 around 1 PM, one Beatbeat Ch Marak raped one woman at Marsang Adima.
The accused also assaulted and threatened her with dire consequences.
