SHILLONG: The city police have made elaborate security arrangements for Durga Puja that will start on Saturday.
East Khasi Hills SP M. Kharkrang said vigilance would be stepped up with additional deployment of forces and officers in the district. “We will also have intensive patrolling, besides bike patrolling,” he added.
There will be intensive checking with breath analysers on city roads to check drunk driving during the festival. Police will pick up anyone creating nuisance on roads.
Most of the pandals in the city will be under the surveillance of CCTV camera and police personnel will be deployed in the pandals.
When asked about traffic arrangement, the SP appealed to people not to take out their vehicles unnecessarily to avoid traffic snarls. Kharkrang also appealed to revellers to cooperate with police and asked them not to park vehicles anywhere on the street that would lead to traffic snarls.
