Criminals take advantage of Indo-Bangla border fencing

TURA: The Indo-Bangla Border Grievances Committee (IBBGC) has submitted a memorandum to Tura MP Conrad K Sangma urging him to look into the grievances being faced by border residents and to take up the same with the Union government. In their memo to Sangma which was submitted earlier on October 7, the committee raised concern over the worsening situation in the border areas due to the rise in crimes like dacoity, terrorism and other anti-social activities. According to the committee, the border fencing instead of providing security has made it unsafe for local residents while at the same time giving added advantage to anti-social elements to commit crimes. “We have to live in fear at all times as there is no security for those residing outside the fencing. In view of the deteriorating situation the BSF also keeps the main gate under lock and key which has posed difficulties especially for school going children and those in need of emergency medical attention,” the committee stated.
