TURA: On a day that was meant to propagate the positive side of the ruling Congress government in terms of development, the missing element was the host. Chief Minister Mukul Sangma was in the domain of senior Congress legislator and minister, Deborah Marak, at Williamnagar on Wednesday to lay the foundation for the parking bays in Garo Hills, but the local MLA was conspicuous by her absence. The reason was reportedly because she was not kept in the loop about the event given the bad blood between the chief minister and the once former deputy chief minister. Deborah was away at Sohra on Wednesday to participate in a programme when word reached her about Chief Minister Mukul Sangma’s programme in Williamnagar. “I was shocked to find that the CM was attending a programme in my constituency and I was not even informed about it?” an angry Deborah said when The Shillong Times contacted her over phone on Wednesday night. ) She reportedly came to know about the programme only on Wednesday morning, just as the chief minister was arriving. There have been several instances when the senior Congress lady legislator was allegedly sidelined by Mukul Sangma on development programmes. She has now decided to knock on the doorsteps of Congress high command AICC and Congress president Sonia Gandhi herself who is said to have a soft corner for the Williamnagar MLA. Despite several moves to dislodge her from a cabinet berth in recent times, Deborah has managed to withstand the political storm – courtesy her close rapport with the Gandhi family
