SHILLONG: The year-long 175th anniversary celebrations of the birth of Khasi language kicked off last month and will conclude on September 16, 2017. The celebration is being organised by the Khasi Author’s Society (KAS). As part of the celebrations, a story telling competition was held during the inaugural function held at St Edmund’s College in the city. Students from several districts of the state took part in the competition. St Edmund’s principal Sylvanus Lamare was the chief guest on the occasion. Lamare, a member of the government-constituted committee formed to pursue the inclusion of Khasi language in the Eighth Schedule, said that the committee has completed its work and suggestions were forwarded to the State Government to urge the Centre to incorporate Khasi language in the Eight Schedule. He also called upon the representatives of the State to work together to expedite the completion of the task. Meanwhile, Hinlika Rani from Sankardev College emerged winner in the story telling completion while Ri Akor Deilang Langshiang from Thomas Jones Synod College, Jowai and Balajied Mawkon from Sankardev College finished second.
