SHILLONG: ‘Fashion Trunk’-a joint venture of two fashionistas, Nancy Singhania and Sheetal Jasrasaria, organized a fashion and lifestyle exhibition on Friday at All Saints Hall which was inaugurated by Daniel Syiem, a renowned fashion designer from Meghalaya.
Through the exhibition, the ladies are keen to bridge the fashion gap in Shillong which according to them has very less options in terms of fashion.
While speaking to reporters, Singhania pointed out the limited choice available in the city. She said, “The choice of fashion is very less in Shillong which creates a fashion gap.”
“Shillong is a mystery box of fashion. People are interested in fashion and dress up as if they are heading to a party. The road is a fashion ramp” she replied when asked about the concept of the ‘trunk’.
The duo is optimistic that Shillong will be a good market for fashion clothing. Jasrasaria said, “Shillong is all about fashion. A girl wearing an Indo-Western wear can carry it off easily.”
The exhibition showcased Indo-Western and ethnic wear with participants from the city, Guwahati, Kolkata and Kashmir.
A participant from Kashmir, Sabra Negi, on her maiden visit to Shillong said, “Shillong has a really good market. People of Shillong have been very appreciative of what we have brought to them, so we will definitely come back for another exhibition.”
She added, “I deal in Pakistani suits and Kashmiri pashmina shawls, I am not getting clothes sourced from second hand markets or duplicate materials.”
People were seen thronging the exhibition which showcased clothing line and jewellery, local made chocolate etc.
