Court examines mother of Upper Shillong rape victim

SHILLONG:  A local court in the city has started the examination of the witnesses into the shocking case of rape and murder of a 19-year-old girl at Upper Shillong in March this year.
Special Public Prosecutor, IC Jha informed that the mother of the victim, who is the complainant in the case, was examined by the Sessions Court on Friday. Altogether, 36  witnesses including many headmen will be examined during the course of the trial. The matter has been listed for hearing again on October 28.
It may be mentioned that the police have submitted the charge sheet before a city court in connection with the case and the prime accused, Vicky Syiemlieh has been  booked under Section  302, 376  and 201 of IPC. He was also charged for destruction of evidence.
The incident took place in March this year, when the girl went missing on  March 17 evening   after she finished cutting vegetables at her house.
This prompted the family to launch a manhunt.
The girl was later found in a jungle close to her residence, following which she was shifted to Civil Hospital where she was declared brought dead.
Soon after the incident, the mother of the accused handed over her son to the police after he confessed his involvement in the crime.
