SHILLONG: Annoyed over the sudden suspension of KHADC CEM and Congress legislator PN Syiem from the party, Shillong MP Vincent H Pala on Sunday said he would register his protest with Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi.
“I am not happy with the timing of suspension of Syiem. He should have been given enough time before deciding on such an extreme step”, Pala said.
The MP also wondered as to the reason given by the party for the suspension of Syiem.
“How can they say that Syiem resorted to anti-party activities when the campaign for the by-polls for the vacant council seats is yet to start”, Pala asked.
According to Pala, the very purpose of suspending Syiem was defeated as the Congress lost more MDCs at a time when these MDCs are important for the party which is preparing for the by-polls.
“I will take up the matter with Rahul Gandhi and I will also officially write to AICC to contest the decision taken by the party”, Pala said.
The Shillong MP said he was not informed about the development by party president DD Lapang and added that he had neither discussed the matter with Syiem nor with Lapang since he was busy on tour in the outskirts of Shillong.
“However, I feel that this is not the right approach. The suspension is a case of manipulation by one or two people”, Pala asserted.
Earlier, Syiem said he had neither received any show cause notice nor the suspension letter from the party and pointed out that due procedure was not followed in the whole matter.
Syiem also said neither the party working president nor the president can summon the parliamentary party meeting of the MDCs as it was his prerogative.
During the parliamentary party meeting attended by five MDCs at Lapang’s residence on October 14, Manstudy Nongrem was elected as the new parliamentary party leader.
