World Food Day observed in Nongpoh

Nongpoh:A one day programme was organized by the office of the District Agriculture Officer, Ri Bhoi District on Friday to celebrate ‘World Food Day’ with the theme ‘Climate change food and agriculture must too’ at the Conference Hall of the District Agriculture Office in Ri Bhoi.
The programme was attended by District Agriculture Officer, Ri Bhoi KD Kharkongor, District Horticulture Officer, Ri Bhoi Annie B Lyngdoh and Executive Engineer, Water Resources Department, SH Nadon.
Kharkongor, while delivering his speech, expressed pleasure in celebrating the day with huge participation of farmers from the District and while emphasizing on the need to keep pace with the changing environment and and technology available today.
Kharkongor said that  the District has huge potential for agricultural related activities. He also exhorted the farming section of the district to refrained from planting broom grass which causes damage to the soil, while stressing that there are ample crops which farmers can plant for improving their economic conditions.
Meanwhile, Lyngdoh in her speech, emphasized on climate change issue which has triggered global attention while also urging the local farmers present on the occasion to change their plantations as per the climate, adding that the department is ready to help and assist the farmers on their various issues.
An interaction action session with the farmers was also part of the programme, where farmers share their views and difficulties which got positive response by the officers present on the programme and were assured of all possible assistance.
