SHILLONG: Shillong-based folk-fusion band Summersalt released their first self-titled debut audio-video album at the Shillong Club here on Wednesday.
The six members of the band – vocalists Pynsuk Syiemiong and Kit Shangpliang, keyboardist and duitara-playing Ador, guitarist Greg, bassist Baiaineh and drummer Dawadhok – took three years to complete the album. With a collection of twelve songs, four of which were made into music videos, the album is a creative capture of the band’s recent history.
The album was recorded by another well-known musician, Ribor Mb assisted by Ban Mawroh at Merliham Studios, Shillong while the mastering was furnished in the US by SageAudio. The music videos for the album were done by State of Mind Productions with the support of HMG Productions.
The band’s use of household tools as musical instruments is reflected in the album. The music of the Khasi Hills as a foundation of the album is well defined. The album, it was stated, is not a mere collection of songs but a documentation of Summersalt’s journey from a “garage band to a people’s pick”.
Their songs reflect the life, the history, the struggles and hopes of the people living in the Khasi hills, a statement said.
This is also the first time that a band from Meghalaya had its music distributed by Times Music. The album comes a month before the release of Bollywood’s Rock On 2, a movie that was shot in different parts of the city and also featured the band.
Summersalt’s debut album is available online at www.timesmusic.com and other mobile platforms like itunes, gaana.com, etc.
