UDP forms panel to probe KHADC scam

SHILLONG: The United Democratic Party (UDP) has constituted an internal inquiry committee to probe the alleged embezzlement of Rs 2 crore in the KHADC.
Informing this here on Wednesday, UDP working president Jemino Mawthoh said the party has already written to the concerned authorities for furnishing necessary documents pertaining to the alleged scam.
KHADC Executive Member in charge taxation, Donkupar Sumer, had earlier asserted that there was misappropriation of funds in the District Council after allegations surfaced that over Rs 2 crore was diverted to personal bank accounts.
The Council’s taxation department has directed the banks to provide personal details and account numbers of those are alleged to be involved in the fraud so that this can provide information about persons who are actually involved in the crime.
Meanwhile, UDP vice president Allantry Dkhar said the party was proud of its MDCs who have unearthed this scam.
