KOHIMA: The Government of Democratic Republic of Nagaland/Naga National Council (Non-Accord), a rebel outfit of Nagaland, has claimed the responsibility of firing at Kiumukam, its “impeached president” on October 18 in Dimapur.
The rebel outfit claimed in a statement that the shooting was carried out by its army. It stated that Kiumukam was warned not to interfere in the affairs of the “government” on the very day of his “impeachment”.
According to the statement, GDRN had also challenged him to prove majority through the floor test (the impeachment motion).
“But despite warning and challenge, Kiumukam continued to tarnish the image of the GDRN Government; therefore, the Naga army was compelled to take such action,” they added.
The statement further said that GDRN/NNC (N/A) was totally against the activities carried out by Kiumukam with “handful” of his supporters and “chairman of Middle Point Colony” stationed at Lama-Bosti (Nagaland-Assam) border in the name of GDRN.
The outfit also branded Kiumukam as the “ringleader of the terrorists in North-East India by supplying arms and ammunition and conducting recruitment in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam respectively.”
The outfit questioned the Nagaland Police for providing protection to Kiumukam.
It also wanted to know from Nagaland Police, whether Kiumukam was lodged under their custody from August 29 to September 5 or was it 32 Assam Rifles, who handed it over to them.
The GDRN has appealed to all Nagas not to follow Kiumukam and warned all of its followers not to tarnish the image of the “government”. (UNI)
