JOWAI: A private party which had taken rivers on lease from the JHADC has been accused of killing thousands of fish in Jaintia Hills by using explosives thus violating the norms laid down by the council’s fishery department.
The Borghat-Jaliakhola Aquatic Life Welfare Association (BJALWA) alleged that one Maikos Syrti of Chiehruphi village who took the Phrang, Tisang and Pyrhung rivers on lease from the JHADC for a period of one year killed the fishes at Phrang river by using an explosive material on Sunday last.
In a statement issued here on Tuesday the BJALWA slammed the JHADC for leasing the rivers to an individual who didn’t care for the environment.  The BJALWA has demanded stern action against the accused.
