JOWAI: A raped accused identified as Wan-o Dhar of Nartiang Pohshnong was badly assaulted by an angry mob after he was identified by his victim a few weeks after he raped her.
Police sources stated that Dhar, who was involved in several criminal activities including contract killing, was absconding after the incident.
On Wednesday night, a resident of Nartiang tried to catch hold of him after spotting him in the village but he managed to escape. He was, however, nabbed by a mob on Thursday and was assaulted. He was saved by the village elders who confined him inside the Durbar hall until police arrived and took him to Jowai Police Station.
The accused reportedly dragged the girl, putting a knife on her neck, to a paddy filed near the village and confined her in a farm house until 2:00am after he raped her. She, however, escaped after the man was drunk and had fallen asleep.
Police say that Dhar has admitted to the crime.
