Pakistani Ranger killed and another injured in retaliatory firing :  BSF

Jammu:  A BSF jawan was on Thursday  killed while six civilians were injured when Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire, shelling over 15 Bops and 29 hamlets with mortar bombs and firing from automatic weapons in R S Pura and Arnia sectors along the International Border in Jammu district.
“The jawan, a head constable, received splinter injuries in the ceasefire violation and succumbed to his injuries,” a senior BSF official said. The jawan identified as Jitendra Kumar was a native of Motihari district in Bihar. Pakistani troops pounded over 20 civilian hamlets along IB in Arnia and R S Pura in Jammu district overnight besides targeting over 15 Bops, drawing retaliation form BSF troops.
In the shelling, six civilians were injured in Khopra Basti belt in R S Pura on Thursday, he said, adding the injured have been evacuated to a hospital for treatment.
Pakistani posts started firing heavy mortars towards the Indian side at 2035 hours, a BSF officer said. , Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Simrandeep Singh said.
Meanwhile a Pakistani Ranger was killed and another injured in retaliatory firing by Indian troops after heavy shelling by Pakistani forces in R S Pura and Arnia sectors along International Border (IB), the BSF said on Thursday.
“At 1230 and 1315 hours on Thursday, BSF troops in Arnia and R S Pura sectors killed one Pak Ranger and seriously injured  another in the retaliatory fire,” a senior  BSF officer said.
Pakistani troopers managed to evacuate the injured trooper in the vehicle amidst exchange of fire, the officer said.
“Pakistan has resorted to very heavy firing which is being responded to in a befitting manner,” he said.
In yet another ceasefire violation after targeting International Border (IB), Pakistan troops on Thursday  indulged in firing along LoC in Sunderbani sector of Rajouri district.
Troops guarding the border line retaliated, he said. A BSF jawan has died and six people were injured when Pakistani troops shelled over 15 border outposts and 29 hamlets with mortar bombs over night in R S Pura and Arnia Sectors along International Border (IB) in Jammu district.
The BSF had last Friday claimed to have killed seven Pakistan Rangers and one terrorist in “retaliatory fire” in Kathua sector.
On Wednesday an Assistant Sub-Inspector of BSF was injured when a shell fired by Pakistani Rangers exploded near him during  ceasefire violation in RS Pura sector along the International Border in Jammu.
As many as 16 people mostly women have been injured in the cross border firing in the RS Pura sector in past two days.
Since surgical strikes by Army on terror launch pads in PoK, over 55 ceasefire violations by Pakistan have taken place in which four people including three security men died and over 25 have been injured. (PTI)
