New DGP may be named after Oct 31

SHILLONG: With only a week left for acting DGP SK Jain to retire, the State government is yet to take a call on the appointment of the new Director General of Police.          Chief Minister Mukul Sangma on Thursday told reporters that the State Security Commission would sit after October 31 to select the new DGP.
Indicating that an acting DGP would be appointed for a few days, Sangma said the government would make appropriate arrangements after the retirement of the incumbent DGP.
The first meeting of the State Security Commission on August 31 was chaired by Sangma to discuss the selection of the new DGP.
As per the seniority list, the five eligible IPS officers for the DGP’s post are YC Modi (1984 batch), PS Purohit (1985 batch), RP Agrawal (1986 batch), who are all on deputation to the Centre, Raghvendra Awasthi (1985 batch), who is the current DG (Civil Defence and Home Guards), and SB Singh (1986 batch), who is at present holding the charge of Additional DGP (Law and Order).
