Peace run, pledge mark day
SHILLONG: A Run for Unity was organized by NEEPCO in association with O.M.Roy Memorial School, Mawlai, in which NEEPCO employees and students of the school as part of the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas on Monday. A. Kumar, GM(HR), NEEPCO flagged off the Run after paying tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in Kynton Massar, Mawlai on the occasion of his birth anniversary. Kumar also administered the pledge at the school and at the Corporate Office.
Meanwhile in Umiam, the week-long celebration for Rashtriya Ekta Saptah was initiated on Monday at North East Regional institute of Education, Umiam. A lecture on ‘Relevance of Sardar Vallabhai Patel in today’s India’ was presented by the chief guest Dr Brahmadeo R Tiwari, IAS. Other events like Run for Unity, essay competition for school students, poster competition for B.Ed students of NERIE and plantation programme are planned in the week ahead.
In Garo Hills, a Run for Peace, Unity and Integrity organized at Ampati on the occasion of Rashtrya Ekta Diwas and Rashtriya Sankalp Diwas on Monday was flagged off by South West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Cyril V D Diengdoh and Superintendent of Police Ramesh Singh. Close to 150 people from all walks of life including personnel from the Meghalaya police and the Border Security Force enthusiastically participated in the run for peace, unity and integrity. After the run, a workshop on national unity day and national rededication day was organized at Ampati students field wherein pledges for both the occasions were taken by all led by Diengdoh. Several speakers also talked on relevant topics during the workshop. Later, the pledges was also taken by all district line departments led by the Deputy Commissioner at a formal gathering at the DC office complex.
In North Garo Hills district, heads and staff of all line departments along with various group of NGOs took a pledge to dedicate themselves to work with sincerity and fairness for the upliftment of the people and the society in the area at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office premises on Monday. Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner, S.C.Sadhu called for the cooperation of all the Government employees, stakeholders and everybody present in the programme to fulfill the objectives of the Government in serving the people of the State in general and the area in particular.
