MEPA condemns NDTV censorship
The Meghalaya Editors’ and Publishers’ Association (MEPA) has condemned the unprecedented decision of the I&B Ministry to ban NDTV for a day and demanded that the unprecedented order be withdrawn forthwith. In this regard MEPA supported the demand of the Editors Guild of India by urging the ministry to withdraw the ban imposed on NDTV. “This ban is indeed tantamount to press censorship and gagging of media from free dissemination of news”, the general secretary of MEPA, Philip Marwein said in a statement. The Centre had banned NDTV’s  Hindi TV channel for a day on November 9 for  its coverage of Pathankot attack.

Warjri lays foundation of Synod school building
Minister of Higher and Technical Education Roshan Warjri on Friday laid the foundation stone of an annexed school building of Synod Higher Secondary School under the ADB scheme in the presence of  Rev. N.K Nonglang, Moderator KJP Synod Sepngi. Warjri lauded the school management for their tireless effort in upgrading the infrastructure of the school and in rendering quality education to students. She also stressed on the need for improving the conditions of other schools so as to bring about a change in the educational scenario of the State.

NHRC member visits Don Bosco Museum
Justice D. Murugesan, member of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Delhi visited Don Bosco Museum on Friday in Mawlai.  “After visiting the museum today, I felt as if I had visited all the States in the region,” hJustice Murugesan noted. Three members of the NHRC – Justice H.L. Dattu (chairman), Justice D. Murugesan (member) and Justice S.C. Sinha (member) are on a visit to Shillong attending the two-day National Human Rights Workshop held in the city.

Bhupen death anniv today
Assam Club of Laban will observe 5th death anniversary of music mastero Dr. Bhupen Hazarika on Saturday on the Club premises. Former Education Minister of Meghalaya Manas Chaudhury will attend the programme as the chief guest, while Mrs Monisha Hazarika, a member of Bhupen Hazarika Trust and sister-in-law of the legend will be the guest of honour. A bust of Dr Hazarika will be unveiled on the occasion followed by a cultural programme. The programme, which was scheduled to start at 5.30, has been preponed to 3.30pm.

Ayurveda, homoeopathy camp
The North Eastern Institute of Ayurvedic and Homoeopathy (NEIAH), an autonomous institution at Mawdiangdiang, held a one-day health camp at Mawlyngad village on Tuesday morning.  A meeting was held before the health check-up where the headman, Bah Elias Kharbihkhiw, welcomed the team from NEIAH to the village. In the meeting, Dr M. Lamin and Dr D. Suchiang spoke on Ayurveda and homoeopathy.

Armed miscreants rob truck
Four unidentified armed miscreants overpowered one rice laden truck (AS-01DD-6551) at Sohbala, Umsning (RB) and hijacked it towards the Shillong by-pass. The incident took place on November 3 at around 11 pm. In another incident, the miscreants waylaid one cement laden vehicle (ML-04A-8482) at Umsohlang and robbed Rs. 1,700/- and a cell-phone from the driver. The matter is under investigation.

IL&FS programme in Sohra
The IL&FS (Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services) Skills, Shillong, organised an awareness programme at Mustoh village in Sohra on Thursday. Donboklang Suchen, Community Engagement State Coordinator, and Donald W Laloo, Community Mobiliser from IL&FS Skills, told the gathering that the minimum qualification for the trainings is education till Class V-VIII and above and in the age group of 18-35 years. The trainings are for those residing along the Bangladesh border. The State sponsors these trainings and candidates do not have to pay fees or spend on food and lodging, they informed. IL&FS Skills asked students residing on border areas to call up  8014720930, 8257081608 for details.
