Shillong: The Assam Regiment is celebrating its Platinum Jubilee with a ‘Motor Cycle Expedition’ to pay homage to martyrs of the regiment, who made the “supreme sacrifice” during World War II, and in the last 75 years.
The expedition team alongwith veterans of the regiment will lay wreath at various War Memorials of Assam Regiment at Kohima, Aradura, Jessami and Imphal.
The expedition will also conduct a campaign titled “Join the Indian Army” at schools and colleges at Jessami and Ukhrul to encourage the youths to join Indian Army.
The team consists of one officer and seventeen soldiers of the Assam Regiment.
The expedition was flagged off by Lt Col Martin Khongmen (Retd) alongwith Brig SK Jha, YSM, Commandant Assam Regimental Centre on Saturday. The Motor Cycle Expedition will be ‘flagged in’ on November 17 at Assam Regimental Centre after travelling a distance of 1700kms and enroute crossing the township of Dimapur, Kohima, Jessami, Ukhrul, Imphal and back to Shillong.
