Nongpoh: A delegation of the Ri Bhoi Youth Federation (RBYF) has sought KHADC chief Pynshngain N Syiem’s intervention in ending the prevailing unrest at Umsawnongkharai village in the district following the appointment of an acting headman by the KHADC.
The RBYF, led by president B. Thangkhiew, submitted a petition to the KHADC chief earlier this week expressing surprise over the appointment of an acting headman by the council without consulting the villagers.
It may be mentioned that the KHADC had recently appointed Joseph Lyngdoh Thaiang as acting headman of Umsawnongkharai based on the complaint lodged by few members of the village.
The villagers have argued that there was no need for the council to appoint Thaiang as the residents had already elected A. Sun as their headman.
The RBYF said that it has demanded the cancellation of Thaiang’s appointment and conduct of fresh election in the presence of KHADC representatives.
