SHILLONG: The State’s dream to have a technology park may take longer to realise as the government has to decide on the financial modelling for the proposal.
The detailed project report for the IT park, which was envisaged in 2013-14 and has an estimated cost of Rs 550-600 crore, has already been prepared by Accenture. The IT Department had floated tender and finally chose Accenture for preparing the DPR.
Addressing a press conference here on Monday following a review meeting, DP Wahlang, Commissioner and Secretary in the IT and Communications Department, said setting up of the technology park is “very complicated” as the State has to compete with metro cities like Bangalore, Pune and Kolkata.
Wahlang said the Department would conduct road shows to invite IT players only after the State government takes a call on the financial modelling. “We are only waiting for the approval of the State government on who will pump in the money – the State government or whether it will be on PPP mode,” he said.
The State government has allotted about 80 acres of land in New Shillong Township for the park of which 10 acres has been allotted to NEILIT for setting up a training institute.
The IT park will house companies providing IT and BPO services, promoting innovation and entrepreneurship, research and development and developing skills for employability and livelihood generation.
