SHILLONG: Taking note of the delay in getting the Governor’s approval for the Village Administration Bill (VAB), Chief Minister Mukul Sangma lashed out at suspended Congress MDC and KHADC CEM P.N Syiem for allegedly cheating the people of the state on the issue.
The Governor has already given his assent to VAB of the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) while that of the KHADC is being delayed. The Chief Minister asserted that he had suggested the KHADC to recall the VAB and examine the bill further.
The People’s Democratic Forum (PDF)-led coalition of the KHADC had approved the amendment to the VAB in 2015. “The KHADC should have brought about appropriate changes to the VAB. The VAB has to be an appropriate one as constitutional and legal matters will have to be taken into consideration,” Sangma told media persons here on Tuesday.
“If we look at the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security (MRSS) Bill, it became an act after there was a long-drawn exercise of legal matters,” he added.
Meanwhile, commenting on former Congress Member of District Council (MDC) from Laitumkhrah-Malki, Neil Antonio War, who joined the BJP recently, Sangma said it was expected since he wanted to contest the 2018 Assembly election.
