SHILLONG: Former militant and Mawhati MLA Julius Dorphang is of the opinion that Narendra Modi’s ‘surgical strike’ on black money will not cripple militants’ operations.
When asked by reporters whether the move of the Centre will hit the militants’ finances, he said, “The move will not affect militants. Militants in Bangladesh use the neighbouring country’s currency for transactions.”
He however stated that a timeframe should have been given for the withdrawal of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 denominations.
Speaking to reporters, he said, “Though it is a good move, it is too premature. The public should have been given sufficient time. It has created panic amongst the masses. It is sad for the rural people as know nothing about the matter.”
“Every government has its policies and promises to deliver, and I believe the intention of Modi is to get rid of corruption. But it is too premature as time was not served to the public especially the rural people,” he added.
