SHILLONG: The Meghalaya SSA Schools Association (MSSASA) has demanded that the State government enhance payment to teacher’s salary as per the Project Approval Board (PAB).
The teachers also objected to the classification of teachers as trained and untrained, based on which the salary is enhanced.
Addressing a press conference on Friday, Aritotle Rymbai said, “The State Mission Director (SMD) in an order has proposed salary enhancement for trained and untrained SSA teachers which he stated is as per the Right to Education (RTE) Act and the National Council for Teacher’s Education (NCTE) norms.”
Questioning the state government as to whether the order issued by the SMD was based on NCTE norms issued on September 3, 2001 or NCTE norms of August 23, 2010.
“The 2001 NCTE norm states that the qualification of LP teachers and UP teachers should be class 12 passed with diploma in elementary education, on the other hand the 2010 norm states that LP teachers should be class 12 passed with diploma and UP teachers should be graduate with diploma,” he added.
“The salary for trained teachers of lower primary (LP) schools was fixed at Rs 19, 044 and for trained upper primary (UP) teachers at Rs 20, 493. Again, in terms of untrained teachers, salary was fixed at Rs 13, 335 for LP and Rs 14, 392 for UP teachers.”
The teachers will lead a delegation to New Delhi on November 15, to meet the Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar.
