BJP youth wings in 2 more constituencies
The saffron brigade in the state has constituted two branches in Mawkynrew and Nongspung-Sohiong constituencies with an aim to strengthen BJP’s foothold among the youth and garner more support. President of BJP Youth Wing in Mawkynrew constituency is Mlenkir Suting, vice president is Shanbok Mynsong. The president of Nongspung Sohiong Constituency is Rajikynsai Kharlor and General Secretary is Lasan Nongbsap.
Sanitation at FCI Mawlai a concern
Concerned over the prevailing sanitation problem at FCI Mawlai, the local unit of FKJGP has urged the deputy commissioner of East Khasi Hills district to expedite the construction of public toilets at the junction to be used by trucks drivers who unload materials at FCI.
The pressure group had in June this year urged the DC to construct toilets at the areas to stop open defecation. FKJGP said the filthand stench would create health hazards for the residents here.
‘Banks must issue tokens’
The Centre must ensure that all arrangements are in place at public sector banks to make the transition in currency denominations smooth, said chairman of the Grand Council of Chiefs of Meghalaya John F. Kharshiing. Kharshiing further said banks must provide tokens to the elderly and pregnant women and arrange for seats. “A process of providing a token must be considered so as to allow people to productively utilise their time,” he added. Blaming the Centre and the central bank for not doing “its due diligence”, Kharshiing said several people from rural pockets of the State “told us that they had a harrowing time as after waiting for long hours, the bank told them that it did not have notes”.
Appeal for safe release of abducted teacher
The N0GOs of Williamnagar have appealed for the unconditional release of Rechard Stranger M. Sangma, a lower primary school teacher (SSA) who was abducted on the night of November 4 from his resident at Nengsang A.dugre under Williamnagar. In a press statement, they have extended their displeasure over the abduction stating that the abduction of a school teacher is regrettable and unwarranted. They further mentioned that repeated incident of abduction of school teachers is discouraging and intimidating the teachers from performing their duty.
Teen dies in accident
A 19-year-old youth died after the Maruti car he was driving collided with a truck on Nongstoin bypass road on Saturday. The deceased has been identified as Banshemphang Lyngdoh of Tiehjyrsieh New Nongstoin in West Khasi Hills. Another 19 years old youth, Nickstar John Wahlang (19) of Upper New Nongstoin was injured in the incident. According to Traffic Branch Nongstoin Police, the private vehicle bearing registration number ML 06 5178, was travelling towards Nongstoin. On reaching the junction towards Mawthawniaw village, the maruti collided with a truck travelling from Sohpian toward Riangdo area.
Review meeting on Garo Hills road
PWD Minister Martin M. Danggo recently visited Garo Hills to review road projects and inspect the condition of roads in rural areas. The Minister directed the department’s district-level officials to implement approved road projects on time during a review meeting at Tura Hotel Polo Orchid. He also discussed the difficulties faced by officials in the region in performing duties and assured them to look into their problems.
