District Admin to consider roadside distribution as ‘public nuisance’; to take legal action

JOWAI: The Deputy Commissioner of West Jaintia Hills has informed that home delivery of LPG cylinder will be made mandatory from from January 1, 2017.
The decision was taken in a meeting held with two agencies – Ms Ripnar Gas Agency and Ms Rymbai Gas Agency. Deputy Commissioner, Arun Kumar Kembhavi had instructed both the gas agencies to procure small vehicles which can ply through the narrow lanes of Jowai for delivery of cooking gas.
The DC informed that the decision was taken in the wake of reports that gas agencies were not delivering at the customer’s doorstep, in spite of receiving Rs. 45.5 from customers for each cylinder for home delivery and hill charge.
It was also informed that from January 1, 2017, when a refill is required by a customer, one have to place a request through IVRS number 9089024365. Once the cash memo is generated and the cylinder is ready to be dispatched, the customer will receive a confirmation SMS and the refill will be delivered to the address on the customer ID.
The office of the District Administration has also requested all customers not to wait on the roadside for delivery trucks to come as delivery on the roadside will be treated as ‘public nuisance’ and dealt as per law.
The District Administration has also informed that the rate of LPG cylinder is revised every month by the Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) which is published in newspapers.
The current rate of 14.2 Kg domestic cylinder is Rs. 616 which includes Rs 25 home delivery. Apart from this, the District Administration has fixed Rs 20.5 as hill charges. Hence the rate per cylinder is currently at Rs 636.5. For outstation customers coming from villages or those consumers who come to agency to pick up their own cylinder, the rate will be Rs 591. Agencies charging more than the mentioned rate will result in hefty penalties as per Marketing Discipline Guidelines 2015.
Deviation may be reported through Whats-app to 9436394363 or through Deputy Commi-ssioner’s Facebook page.
