TURA: Teachers under the All Garo Hills SSA LP and UP School Teachers’ Association (AGHSSALP&UPSTA) have urged Education Minister, Deborah C Marak to look into the anomaly in the payment of their salaries which is not in accordance with the salary amount approved by the Project Approval Board (PAB) of 2016-17.
“The Centre Government in MHRD had approved Rs 20,493 per month for UP school teachers and Rs 19,044 for LP school teachers. However, the notification by the State Government for salary enhancement is only Rs 14,392 per month for UP school teachers and Rs 13,335 per month for LP school teachers,” the teachers stated.
Earlier, the enhanced salary amount was approved by the PAB in its 238th meeting held in New Delhi in April. Currently, the Upper Primary and Lower Primary school teachers are each receiving a salary amount of only Rs 9,900 and Rs 9,200 respectively.
The teachers have served a deadline until November 21 to the Education Minister to fulfill their demands and warned that it would be left with no other option than to agitate if the same is ignored.
