MPA annual meeting held
The 36th annual general meeting of the Meghalaya Pensioners Association (MPA) was held on Tuesday at the Seminar Hall, State Central Library, Shillong where additional Chief Secretary, Y. Tsering graced the inaugural programme as chief guest. Tsering  congra-tulated  the initiative taken up by the MPA  and also informed that the Pensioners Adalat will be organised in collaboration with the MPA to address various issues faced by the pensioners and also for the speedy settlement of the pension cases.
Competition
As part of the ‘Cultural Activities through District Arts and Culture Societies 2016-17’, the District Arts & Culture Society, West Khasi Hills District, Nongstoin will organise a quiz competition, cartoon competition, painting competition, creative writing, folk song individual, folk song group, guitar instrument, traditional music instruments and folk dance group from November 15-19 in all the Block Offices including Nongstoin, Mairang, Mawthadraishan and Mawshynrut. Participants are required to submit their particulars to their respective BDOs before November 16. As for Nongstoin Block, the competition will be organized by the District Arts and Culture Society and participants can submit their particulars to the office of the Nongstion DC,  or contact 9615459925/8414810641.
Cleaning drive organised
Participating in the fortnight-long observance of the nation-wide mission on Swachh Baharat Pakhwada, the students, faculty and staff of the Martin Luther Christian University organised a cleaning drive not just in its campus but also in the surrounding locality of Dongktieh and Nonglum in Nongrah on Tuesday. Before the cleaning drive, the students participated in poster making and painting competitions where the winners were given cash prizes.
Children’s Day celebrated
Members of the New Colony Welfare Association, a registered socio cultural organization, visited Shillong Academy Secondary School, New Colony, Shillong, on November 15 and distributed sweets and gifts to the students of lower classes. Keeping in mind the ensuing annual examination, a short and small program was arranged by the school authority.
SSA teachers seek a/c change
The All Garo Hills SSA LP UP School Teachers’ Association (AGHSSASTA) has sought changing the SSA school current account in State Bank of India to a saving bank joint account.  “SSA teachers drawing their salaries from the current account are facing problems like deductions. We request you to direct the SBI authorities to change it to saving bank joint account,” they said in their letter to the SSA state project director in Shillong.
Rally against abduction
The All Garo Hills SSA Teachers’ Association, along with several social organisations took out a public peace rally in Williamnagar  in East Garo Hills on Tuesday in protest against the abduction of a school teacher. Rechard Stranger M Sangma, an assistant teacher at Nengsrang Adugre SSA LP School, was abducted from his residence on November 4. Several students’ bodies, social organisations and church leaders joined Tuesday’s rally.
