SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) on Thursday called on KHADC CEM P.N. Syiem to discuss the contentious boundary issue between Meghalaya and Assam.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting HYC president Peter Lawai said, “We met the CEM to remind of the pending boundary dispute and he has assured to follow up on the matter.”
In a memorandum submitted to the KHADC CEM, the HYC stated that there was an urgent need to resolve the boundary issue and that land falling within the jurisdiction of the Hima should remain in Meghalaya.
“The office of the KHADC should come up with its own map which should show the villages and the Himas along with the boundary lines. The Himas in this regard should send the maps of their villages to the KHADC,” Lawai said, and added that the KHADC should have its own land survey report and record.
He stated that the KHADC should direct the Himas to not sell their land to Assam residents as it will worsen the situation further.
On the other hand, the HYC also submitted a memorandum for the KHADC to come up with a law on clan administration and make a list of recognized Khasi/ Hynniewtrep clans.
