SHILLONG: The Deputy Commissioner (Supply) of East Jaintia Hills has warned all shopkeepers and traders against harassing consumers and asked them to sell essential commodities and medicines without any conditions.
The notice has been issued following complaints from the Hima Sutnga and the Youth Federation of Sutnga that some shopkeepers and traders are taking advantage after the demonetisation.
After demonetisation, banks have issued new notes and smaller old denomination to people but some individuals are hoarding currency notes of smaller denominations creating a crisis in the market. To add to the woes of the common man, shopkeepers and traders are creating more problems.
The DC also instructed traders to use and accept soiled notes of Rs 100 and below till new notes are in supply.
“If there are any lapses on the part of the shopkeepers, traders and customers, stern action will be taken by the Deputy Commissioner (Supply), East Jaintia Hills District,” the official statement said, adding that any violation should be reported to the DC.
