SHILLONG: The District Magistrate, East Jaintia Hills has promulgated an order under Section 144 of the CrPC prohibiting rampant killing of fish in river and streams, use of chemicals and biological substances that could harm the aquatic life and mass killing of fish.
The order also prohibits felling of trees and vegetation in and around rivers, any activity that can poison water bodies and any sport or competition and festival that may endanger fish and disturb the aquatic life.
This order will come into force with immediate effect and until further notice.
