SHILLONG: The Civil Society Women’s Organisation (CSWO) has condemned the assault of a child by her stepmother in Wokha in Nagaland earlier this month and stated that cases of children abuse should be taken seriously.
The woman was arrested on Wednesday and it was alleged that she had also assaulted the other siblings for which the CWC had to intervene.
The CSWO said such acts against minor children will not be tolerated in the society.
The organisation also lauded the bold step taken by residents of the colony who reported the matter to the police.
“The Civil Society Women’s Organisation demands that bail should not be easily granted to this woman as she may intimidate the children.”
“Children are our assets and should be well taken care of and not be assaulted or used, trafficked, raped or abused,” a statement from the organisation said.
“Such acts against them should be brought immediately to the notice of authorities and should not be hidden and hushed up. Society should rise up to defend children at all cost,” it added. The organisation further emphasised the need to raise voices against the ever increasing number of child crimes.
The Civil Society Women’s Organisation were informed that the child may be suffering from internal injuries and the doctor has referred a CT scan.
