JOWAI: The winter session of the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) that began on Thursday was prorogued after 40 minutes only with questions and reply and official reports on the list of business.
The lone opposition member of the House, Marki Mulieh, a former UDP leader who is now in BJP, even staged a walkout before the chairman prorogued the session.
This is not the first time that a JHADC session lasted for a short span of time. In fact, records say that the session once lasted for only three minutes as no important business was listed for the day.
On Thursday, the BJP leader raised several questions but none of the replies satisfied him. He also brought a zero hour notice that was rejected by the chairman of the House.
Mulieh had brought a zero hour notice to discuss the issue of the suspension of dollois. “But the chairman did not allow any discussion on the issue. In the last session too, I brought a zero hour notice under Section 53 to discuss the issues of felling down of tress at Saitsama and the Chairman allowed the notice. But this time, it is surprising that the chairman did not allow the notice under Section 56,” Mulieh said.
